With the advent of COVID, many communities got displaced and unemployed. To tackle this, 1M1B revived a tailoring unit in a tiny village named Lakkavaram in the East Godavari region of Andhra Pradesh, India. The tailoring unit started producing PPE kits and selling them to nearby hospitals. 240 women were upskilled and got jobs (80% of them were from marginalized or below poverty line). These women received training on design sense, thread work, soft skills for customers, understanding business needs and opportunities, project management and following health and safety standards. Going from the usual fall-Pico work that they were most skilled in to industry-level output was the focus.
